All About: Power Serum

All About: Power Serum

Are you ready to geek out over our best-selling Power Serum? As a clean beauty chemist, I think it’s so fun to share the science behind my products with y’all.

When I thought about an anti-aging or brightening formula, I wanted it to solve multiple problems at once (minimalist over here). I also wanted a product that worked quickly because I know how important it is to see results when you start using a new product. That’s how I came up with the dual brightening strategy you see in the Power Serum. Pomegranate enzyme resurfaces skin for smoother, brighter skin in the short term, while kakadu plum extract works on wrinkles and dark spots in the long term. The result is a powerful brightening serum that gives you that instant gratification but also really provides benefits down the road. It’s like your favorite chemical exfoliant plus your vitamin C serum - in a gentle enough formula to be used daily.

What is a serum?

A serum is usually a water-based gel formula with a high concentration of active ingredients. It’s typically used once a day, after cleansing and before moisturizing. Wait about 30 seconds for a serum to sink in before applying lotion or facial oil.

What are the actives in Power Serum?

Power Serum contains 3% pomegranate enzyme, which provides gentle exfoliation for immediately smoother skin. It also contains 2% kakadu plum extract. Kakadu plum is the richest source of vitamin C in nature (100x the vitamin C content of oranges). This extract provides many of the anti-aging benefits of vitamin C including increased hydration, wrinkle reduction, and skin tone evening.

So what are all the other ingredients?

The other ingredients provide the delivery system for the actives. Water is the solvent and provides skin hydration. Sodium gluconate and lactobacillus ferment are sustainable antimicrobial agents that also provide a moisturizing effect. Pentylene glycol is a humectant and skin penetration enhancer - meaning it helps actives go deeper into the skin. Xanthan gum gives a silky gel texture, and gardenia extract gives that beautiful peachy color. More about our ingredients and where they come from on the ingredients page!

How often can I use it?

Unlike many alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s), pomegranate enzyme is a gentle exfoliant that can be used daily. Pomegranate enzyme is also not photo-sensitizing so can be worn in the morning (still with SPF of course!) or night.
